1. Use a ratio of 1 part rice to 1 1/2 parts water (e.g., 2 cups rice to 3 cups water). 2. Rinse your rice thoroughly before cooking. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear. Use a fine mesh strainer to strain off dirty water. 3. Salt your cooking water before bringing the rice to a boil. This ensures your rice does not end up flavorless. Optionally, you can lightly toast your rice in the pan with a little butter or oil before adding water if you have the time. 4. Bring the rice and salted water to a boil. Let it boil uncovered until a few rice granules begin to float at the top of the pan. 5. Place the lid on the pot, leaving a slight crack for venting. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and cook for 15-17 minutes. 6. Turn off the heat and let the rice steam for another 10 minutes. DO NOT lift the lid until the rice has finished cooking and steaming. 7. After steaming, take a fork and gently separate the rice to fluff it. 8. Serve as desired.
